Redesign update

REMEMBER that redesign I was on about last month? Well, Will and Hak have been diligently beavering a way and I have shown them great discourtesy by being too busy even to respond to emails. This is largely down to the three week stint in HK and my impending libel trial. Many apologies.

However, the test site is here. Readers are invited to have a look and make suggestions. Personally I like the design. It’s clean, easy to read, and classier than a bunch of birds from Newham on their first hen night. But see what you think.

Nah, too many columns make it harder to read. Furthermore, the banner's a definate downgrade.

Really miss Will and Hak. Unbelievably rude but the "blogosphere" deserved nearly all of what they had to give.

I think it's OK, though I do fail to spot the huge leap of progress that would justify the expense.

Oh, I dunno - an upgrade from the obsolete and unsupported backend database the hosting provider may delete at any time without warning, dynamic page loads and rebuilds, drag and drop customisability, industrial strength antispam filters, proper comment management?

Oit - I'm a bird from Newham - don't make me call u a sexist twat (again!)

A bit large and bright for me. Do not get the Red Star. Are you dreaming of when China was apparantly a socialist country!

The shorter lines make it easier to read, but, what about the white space. Are you paying for the white space? Is it value for money? (Actually, it's rther glaringly white.).

As the late Henry "Red" Allen would say: "Nice - ver-r-y nice!"

I think the design of "Shiraz" is crap but VP won't let me change it.

Not bad, nice and clear.

Three things would improve it

1) a list of last 10 posts
2) an odiogo link, so posts can be listened to, by the blind or partially sighted
3) an on-site option to up the size of the text (and yes, I know you can do it within the browser, but site should make the effort).

Looking good.

PS: A preview function would be handy to have too.

No be old Labour Dave leave it as it is!

Morality:

1. clean your specs you prat

2. mebbes

3. fair enough - done

4/PS. oops - fixed

now go away.

Wayne Hugh - good idea. Leave it so it's running on unsupported software and open to every passing spammer and crook. Should put 12 yr olds back cleaning chimbleys and down the mines as well while we're about it - we gave up on that far too soon.

Actually Morality, 2 is not practical - now fuck off again.

SueR, yeah there's not a lot of white space in pop-up books is there? And it's a bugger for smoky bacon crisp crumbs.

Dave,

Next time, I think it would be better for you to get people who are technically competent to do the work.

Talking the talk is one thing, doing a job and doing it well is another matter.

It is not a complicated job.

There's plenty of examples on the Web, plenty of code someone else has already done which can be re-used, etc

All in all it ain't technically difficult and people who make it seem so probably aren't up to the job in the first place.

Your arse is showing Morality. Grind your teeny-weeny little axe somewhere else. It's easy enough to do, whether or not it's a good idea, especially considering the number of adverts, is another matter.

Looks like a proper website.

Don't know if that's a good thing or not.

I do like it, though I'm in two minds about the logo... The red star in the P is a bit pixally around the edges.

And I think maybe the columns should be spread out a bit, or some should be static which others scroll, or with different colour (shades of grey) backgrounds or something. It's a bit much having those three at the top so close together, and it means that the actual text of the blog is crowded out by links and the like. The main content should stand out more.

But otherwise I think it's an improvement and I applaud the choice of the Monbiot uplink: I think a lot of posters would brush him off as some bourgeois reactionary because he writes for the Guardian...

I applaud the choice of the Monbiot uplink

At the moment it is a convenient placeholder feed for demonstration purposes. The final/actual content of the sidebars is yet to be decided. The star isn't pixelly, it has a little 'glow' applied to prevent it disappearing into the image behind.

"SueR, yeah there's not a lot of white space in pop-up books is there? And it's a bugger for smoky bacon crisp crumbs. "

As a fellow crisp eating attic dweller may I add some thoughts .Pop up books are easy to read in the attic where the light may not be so good and of course that means its harder to see crisps crumbs.

I also saw Sue as more a ready salted gal .

excellent!

Hey KItty - I'm suprised you didn't delete the HP link while you were at it ;. Please reinstigate the blogging - the idiots are taking over and we have no resistance leader.

Please, PLEASE, increase the font size.

Also, a slight colour on the background would help cut down the 'glare' rather like the pale blue you use as background on this site.

Just for clarity, I think the "we" that comrade rise of the idiots alludes to is the anti-idiot resistance.

p.s. Sue Arse's favourate crisps are cheese and aryan flavour, being the racist ol' bat that she is.

I like the date thing. On August 10, should have a 'lynch the Swiss guard' mini-game

No, Chicken Licken Legs, my absolute favourite is roast chicken, so you'd better watch out.

The old one is better (and not because the new one has purged my website link). The masthead is better, it is clear and easy. The new one looks shite.

Got to say I prefer the old layout - the main column is broad enough but not too broad, I can see recent comments at a glance & I can find the blogroll if I want it. All that backend stuff (that we can't actually see) sounds smart, though.

Like it!

New one looks much better, go for it.

If what your cat brought in was Will, please kick him up the arse AND ASK HIM TO MAKE THE FONT BIGGER! And put in some background to cut down on the glare.

I thought all you socialists were supposed to have a caring attitude towards the old and the infirm with poor eyesight.

Looks good David.

Make the font bigger? That's what the conveniently located buttons at the top of every post are for you plank!

Fair play, he did implement a Font Size (it is very small and could be missed).

It is a poor implementation, makes the text look weird when used, but he did manage that, which is I suppose half a loaf.

Be good if it was done properly.

You really are a whinging little shit, aren't you?

That's a whinging little petit-bourgeois moralist shit, surely antimodernity? And for all the self-crowned king of PHP's whinging, the world-renowned Moralityblog is singularly lacking in font resizing buttons and the rest of it. Not acceptable.

I have reported Moralityblog to these good pEePle

http://www.equalityhumanrights.com/our-job/

...for not having a FONT SIZE button and shit.

expect a knock on your door soon you disability hating peeple cuntjerb fuckfaced little scrote (with a moonface and hunchback and club foot).

- smells like wet dogs too.

One topic I have always found fascinating on the Left is, disability issues.

How they are rarely discussed, easily misunderstood or seemingly not cared about.

Now any union rep would know that organisations have to accommodate and make adjustments for the disabled under DDA, but what is surprising is how people on the Left themselves rarely make many allowances.

They are simple enough to do, copying over a bit of code from somewhere else, embedd in the HTML, job done.

But typically you get people misunderstanding the issues, which is that there are a lot of partially sighted and blind people in Britain and the world.

So it would be good, dare I say revolutionary, if Left wing blogs made minor accommodations to that fact.

And if you feel that you're young or ignorant, and it doesn't concern you, bear in mind that if you get diabetes you stand a significant chance of going blind.

After the age of 50 you have an increased probability of loss of sight, so either you or someone you know will probably have sight problems by the age of 70, more so if you're working class.

It would be good if contemporary socialists here could at least restrain their natural contempt for others and, think about disability issues for a moment because in all probability they will be affected by them soon enough.

Don't feel bad, Dave. You have done what you can for Will.

Picking up on his talents, many as they are, and encouraging him to use them, and he does, is a success for you both.

Will's over-reaction to criticism is a challenge for both of you, but I'm sure that it is something you can deal with together.

Slobby Fudd is moRalityblOgs dad.

worra laff.

The prior rule: Firstly do no harm.

Where understanding of language is not possible (eg. moralityspeek), one must withdraw from "logical argument" and resort to irony or silence.

But what about moRALityblog's shite?

The animosity, the unbridled destructiveness, the lust to maim and destroy what he does not understand shines through in Moralitieees shite... he is obviously V fuckkinG religious.

epistemological limitation *prevents* him from understanding what is going on in a blog comment box. So his comment *necessarily* relates equally to his position. The irony shouldn't be lost here. It is just too heavy flavoured..

I failed to spot that tiny, little icon with no explanation the like of which I have never come across before and which, I assume, I was expected to search for and operate rather than the 'designer' (heh!) choosing a sensible font size in the first place, a font size that would instantly attract readers rather than put them off. Do you really suppose that non-computer geek, elderly readers are going spend time searching for little icons on the assumption that they will be there, somewhere?

I don't really look at blogs as design objects, all I want to do is read the bloody things, but now I have taken a long, hard look at your effort.

First the heading is far too big, almost Stalinesque in size and domination, not at all like the personality of the blog owner.

Second, all that French Revolution crap for the date has been done before on other Lefty blogs and it is as pretentious there as it is here - again, not in the style of the blog owner.

Thirdly, "Shite to read" is pure Will, nothing wrong with that but I come here to read Dave Osler not Will.

Fourthly, the lettering you have chosen is not the best. Any group of thin upright letters put together, for example "ill", is difficult to discern and read.

Apart from that I'd give it 'C-'

I like the new new redegisn. Is Daffy Duck going to become a permanent fixture? (Nothing wrong with that by the way). I couldn't find the icon to increase the font size though.

Sue

You need better lighting in your attic .
