Several of the reports on the financial difficulties currently faced by the UK Independence Party also include the following snippet:
’The Electoral Commission is also preparing to take legal action against the Socialist Labour Party. The move concerns more than £5,090 of donations.’
A quick glance at the Electoral Commission website indicates that this probably relates to a donation of exactly £5,090 given by Nell Myers, a close friend of SLP general secretary Arthur Scargill and a former National Union of Mineworkers employee, on 30 June 2005.
Intriguing. Anybody know what’s going on?

Well the UKIP thing is because the donor was not registered on the electoral roll... it could well be the same thing in this case.
Isn't Nell Myers an American and presumably ineligible to vote? Or am I thinking of someone else.
I was hoping it would have been a donation from the Lancashire and Cheshire retired miners so I could make a joke about me having been a Cheshire Collier. but I can't now :-(
When i remembered Nell Myers from YCL days she was certainly US by birth. I don't know if she became an official Brit, though
She's American. Long-time NUM worker. You people need to read The Enemy Within. She comes across very nicely. It's funny that it says "the move concerns more than £5,090 of donations". No it doesn't. And such a precise figure. According to the Electoral Commission it concerns the SLP's single declared donation. Of. £5,090. Wow.
After reading the Electoral Commission site I'm happy to report that many of the BNPs donors are now dead.
Does the lack of any mention of Respect in these reports mean they managed to a) get their accounts in on time in this case b) they didn't include any 'dodgy' donations?
Just wondering.
It always saddens me that comrades just talk without thinking about the possible consequences of their actions.
Another example is people speculating about the law and Tommy Sheridan and posting not commonly known knowledge to blogs.
I have little time for either Sheridan or Scargill but I would never dream of mentioning anything possibly useful to the state in a public forum like a blog
It may well be that the Electoral Commission is aware of the 'facts' but if not why help them in their legal action against the SLP.
Have some discipline comrades. If people spoke in so lax a manner on my website, I would just delete their comments

If my mention of any of Nell Myers' details causes anyone a problem then I apologise. However if her details were unknown to the state, I'd be a little surprised. The security services can't be that inefficient can they?
