Peter Hain deputy leadership bid leak
Posted on Monday 29 January, 2007

What purports to be a leaked strategy document from the Peter Hain deputy leadership bid team is doing the rounds. Several blogs are covering the story, including Guido and Luke Akehurst. The pdf can be downloaded here.
Very apparent from what is written is that Hain – pictured left – is almost exclusive concentrating on parliamentarians. As the document states, ‘MPs are our key bases of activism’.
At least the John McDonnell campaign remains orientated to Labour’s much diminished ordinary membership.

I can understand why some of these MPs “will not go public” (“at this point”) on their support for Hain, but can anyone say why one Huw Irranca-Davies MP (in Wales) “cannot go public”?
At least the John McDonnell campaign remains orientated to Labour’s much diminished ordinary membership.
And the trade union rank-and-file, don’t forget.
But yes, the contrast is there comrades. Such campaigns are being fought primarily in the Westminster Bubble, based on pleasant chats over coffee in Portcullis House – with the labour movement left out in the cold.
Our campaign is about focusing on winning over the grassroots – and indeed involving them as much as possible in the campaign.
What happened to Jeremy Corbyn coming out for the deputyship? I haven’t heard much about it in recent weeks.
Surel;y Jon Cruddas has positionaed himslef to get the left vote for deputy, however improbable that may seem
