Death of a trade unionist: 2

zamora%2C%20pedro.jpg In a post two days ago, I highlighted the case of Pedro Zamora (pictured left), the Guatemalan dockers’ union leader brutally executed by rightwing hit squads earlier this week.

Now there are reports that five remaining union leaders have been followed, and are receiving regular death threats, not only to themselves but to their families.

The International Trade Union Confederation and the International Transport Workers’ Federation have submitted a joint complaint to the International Labour Organisation.

The ITF is also asking public figures and trade union activists to sign a petition demanding that the killers are brought to justice and that the intimidation of Guatemalan trade unionists is halted once and for all.
